In August, we live through the Dog Days of Summer. It's hot and often humid, and those who can leave for better climates do. Down south, winter is in full force. August is also known as "the ...
Is it hot enough (or cold enough if you're below the equator) for you yet? There is actually a day for that! Like every month, I pick a diverse collection of events you may or may not know about. This ...
Along with October, May is one of the most densely packed months of the year. It's before the summer humidity and the last whole month of the school year. The weather is warming in t...
One in 25 American families fight against Digestive Tract Paralysis on a daily basis. G-PACT supports these American families who fight against Chronic Intestinal Pseudo-Obstruction (paralysis of the entire digestive tract), Gastroparesis (paralysis of the stomach), and Colonic Inertia (paralysis of the colon) on a daily basis. The conditions, now termed collectively as Digestive Tract Paralysis, occur either idiopathically (without a known cause) or as a result of virus (such as an after effect of the Chicken Pox virus) or as a result of several significant chronic illnesses including Diabetes, Dysautonomia, Parkinson's Disease, Lupus, Scleroderma, Cancer, Mitochondrial Disease, Spinal Cord Paralysis and Cystic Fibrosis.
G-PACT is leading the fight against Digestive Tract Paralysis by pursuing a variety of treatment options through multiple outlets.
In 2009, G-PACT established August as Digestive Tract Paralysis Awareness Month to encompass the date of our founding, August 23, 2001. This month has become recognized not only nationally, but internationally as the official month to recognize and increase awareness of these conditions. Awareness is
crucial in our fight for a cure. Throughout the month of August, we provide many opportunities for people to participate in a variety of creative awareness and advocacy activities through Facebook, Twitter, and our awareness website located at www.gastroparesisawarenessmonth.org.
G-PACT continues the fight to cure and eradicate digestive tract paralysis in the United States and around the world, and we will continue to support the brave patients, families and doctors who are fighting to survive and develop the innovative technologies such as stem cell regeneration, access to treatment options available outside of the US, and electrical pacing of the digestive tract which will make Digestive Tract Paralysis a chapter in American history books rather than a fight against starvation in the 21st Century. These unknown conditions, often fatal due to lack of good treatment options or deaths related to the only treatment options, do not discriminate and can impact any age, ethnicity, gender, and can strike suddenly in otherwise healthy individuals.
